   This is the US 15 years after the Blackout. The Monroe Republic seems to be the only "Republic", but be sure that all the other zones are occupied by Militas... maybe there are some zones where the Rebels defeated the local Militia. This picture just raised the awesomeness level of Revolution!

   We're loving it, too! As fans saw at the end of last week's episode, Charlie's presumed-dead mama is actually being held captive by militia-man Monroe. And, according to Elizabeth Mitchell herself, upcoming episodes will find Rachel doing "anything to survive. The things she does will get you going. You'll be like, 'Noooooo!' Honestly, every day I go to work and I'm like, 'Don't judge her.'" But wait—there's more! "Right now, my poor character's hiding half or maybe even 3/4 of who she is," Mitchell tells us, "but there's little glimmers of wicked in there. She may actually end up turning evil. I mean, she certainly has cause." And what if Rachel does end up going down that dark path? Says Mitchell, "I'd be totally on board with that!"

Rachel's Original Storyline

   The Cubs “losing” the World Series wasn’t the only tweak made to the Revolution pilot. While the plan was always for Charlie’s mom Rachel to be alive, the way that twist played out in the original pilot, with Rescue Me‘s Andrea Roth in the role, was a bit different. For one, Rachel’s status among the living was revealed at the end of the first episode. Secondly, it originally took place in General Monroe’s tent, when she stepped out from behind one of the privacy screens (see screen grab, right).

   Explaining the rewrite that came with the Elizabeth Mitchell recast, exec producer Eric Kripke told me, “We wanted to establish that character correctly, and my honest problem was that when she shows up in the tent in the [original] pilot, it’s sort of implied that she’s Monroe’s lover. A little. And I don’t know where that story goes! But I do know where a story goes where she’s introduced in a very different way” — namely, as someone clearly being held captive by Monroe’s minions. All told, “We’re launching that story in a different way with a different circumstance,” Kripke says, “which will give us a much cleaner line as we move forward with Rachel’s story.”

NBC Ordered 13 Episodes of Revolution

   One of the writers of Revolution, David Reed, has confirmed via Twitter exclusively for Revolution Is On how many episode has the first season. NBC, as expected, ordered 13 episodes and if the ratings are good enough they'll order 9 more episodes to complete the season.

   As of this moment we are walking on thin ice because we don't know what "good enough" is for NBC, and above all, Revolution is a big budget production so it will need better numbers than any other show to be renewed.

Ratings of Revolution Episode 2: Chained Heat

   The 10pm timeslot now, which saw the highly anticipated return of ABC's Castle, and CBS's Hawaii Five-0, to compete with NBC's Revolution, which premiered last week. Revolution dropped a fair bit, though this is to be expected following a premiere/pilot, with a 3.4 rating and 9.21 million viewers this week when compared to last weeks premiere of a 4.1 rating and 11.65 million viewers.

   We have the second Episode of Revolution, “Chained Heat”, wich leaves us a really good general impression. Some key points introduced in the Pilot were deepened, raising more mysteries and questions, but others were only mentioned superficially.

   What’s scarier: Revolution‘s post-apocalyptic, militia-controlled future, or the days immediately following the blackout?

   While Capt. Tom Neville is certainly an imposing and imperious figure, flashbacks in the second episode of the NBC drama (airing Monday at 10/9c) — featuring Elizabeth Mitchell and Tim Guinee as Charlie and Danny’s parents — reveal that the aftermath of the power-down was no picnic either.

   “We get to see them trying to protect their kids a week or two after the blackout, when things are really getting hairy and violence and looting are starting to break out,” says series creator Eric Kripke. And as things get increasingly dangerous on the streets, “it becomes a more gripping, harrowing flashback.”

Eric Kripke Spills Season 1 Secrets

   The power may be out, but the audience was tapped in to last night's series premiere of Revolution as NBC's Best New Show of 2012 won its timeslot by a wide margin. And like all good pilot episodes do, last night left us with hundreds of mega-watt questions about the characters' past, present and future.

   To suss out some answers, I caught up with creator Eric Kripke to talk about the direction Revolution will trek into over the course of season one, how much flashbacks will play into the storytelling and when (or, rather, if) we'll find out who turned the power off!

TheInsider.com: Firstly, what was your goal with Revolution?

   Eric Kripke: My goal in creating the show was to bring to a grand, sweeping epic to television. A real heroes journey. To say that I'm obsessed with Star Wars and Lord of the Rings is an understatement. I wanted to gorge myself on the heroes myth. I wanted 20 Arby's sandwiches at once. We're using the television medium to have the time to delve deep into every character and have a wide tapestry in which to create this journey that's exciting, romantic, adventurous and swash buckling while also giving us characters to love.

Insider.com: So that would make Charlie Luke Skywalker?

   Eric: Charlie is Luke or Frodo or Dorothy. Miles is Aragorn or Han Solo. Although, Aaron is also half-Frodo, because he's carrying the ring.

Revolution Recruits Supernatural Alums Mark Pellegrino, Todd Stashwick and Colin Ford

   A trio of Supernatural favorites are reuniting with former boss Eric Kripke on his new serial thriller. Mark Pellegrino, Todd Stashwick and Colin Ford will guest star on NBC’s Revolution, TVLine has confirmed.

   The increasingly ubiquitous Pellegrino, who was Lucifer on the CW series and most recently appeared on Grimm, will play a militia officer in Episode 3 — thus filling one-third of our Fall TV Prediction for genre-TV’s go-to guy.

   Stashwick (the memorable Dracula in Supernatural‘s “Monster Movie”) portrays a drug lord in the sixth installment, and Ford, aka Young Sam Winchester, visits the series the following week as the brother of a boy who’s been taken by the big, bad militia.

And, according to star Giancarlo Esposito, who plays the seemingly scary Captain Neville, things are going to really start getting interesting in upcoming episodes—even if he wouldn't tell us exactly what those interesting twists were. "I know some things that might happen," he coyly told us. "I know more about some personal relationships that Captain Neville has with other characters in the show that the audience would be very surprised by."

Revolution Premiere Ratings set NBC Record

   NBC’s Revolution was televised — and more than 10 million people watched, setting a ratings record for the network.

   The latest J.J. Abrams-produced thriller about a post-electrical future delivered 11.7 million viewers and a very strong 4.1 rating in the adult demographic at 10 p.m. Monday night. Moreover, the second week of The Voice unexpected rose in the ratings — up a healthy 10 percent to lead the evening with 13.4 million viewers and a 4.6 in the demo.

   Though Revolution was down a bit from itsVoice opening act, a 4.1 is a great number this time slot — particularly on NBC. According to the network, this is the biggest broadcast TV drama premiere in three years on any network (since ABC’s V in 2009) and the biggest drama premiere on NBC in five years (since Bionic Woman in 2007).

   The only bummer: Revolution dropped from a 4.4 in its first half hour to a 3.8 in its second half, suggesting a fair chunk of viewers switched off midway through. Usually when that happens a show’s second episode average rating is down a bit. Still, NBC would happily give this show a full season order if it was steadily pulling a 2.4 rating in this slot. It’s got a lot of wiggle room here. Let’s hope Revolution can creatively pull off the next several episodes (we haven’t seen the second hour yet). And, of course, next week Revolution will face CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 (last night was a repeat) and ABC’s Castle — gulp.

   Meanwhile, over on Fox, the bluntest new title on TV — The Mob Doctor — went Code Blue on the table at 9 p.m. The medical mafia drama was seen by 5.1 million viewers and pulled a weak 1.5 rating in the demo. The return of Bones (7.8 million, 2.3) served as a lead-in, with the veteran procedural down a sharp 30 percent from its premiere last year which was on a Thursday night.

   Neither new show received great reviews from the critics, with Revolution averaging a score of 65 out of 100 on Metacritic and Mob Doc pulling a 36.

20 Burning Questions From Revolution's Pilot

   I can't say I was surprised that the premiere of Revolution Monday night left me with far more questions than answers (after all, the series is produced by Lost mastermind J.J. Abrams). Whether or not the NBC drama will actually resolve all these mysteries is something we'll have to wait and see. Until then, here are the 20 biggest questions that will be keeping me up at night, in no particular order. [Spoilers ahead]

1. How did Ben and Rachel know about the blackout beforehand?

   Minutes before the blackout hit, Ben (Tim Guinee) ran home with a box of supplies and told Rachel (Elizabeth Mitchell) to start stocking water. His wife wasn't too caught off guard, seemingly knowing about the impending light-pocalypse already (though, she didn't immediately start running the faucets like any sane person would do). How did this couple know about the blackout before it hit, while the rest of the world remained — pun fully intended — in the dark?

2. What was Ben's profession?

   With an apparent inside track to all the latest blackout knowledge, Ben's apocalypse expertise is most likely connected to his job pre-blackout. Was he a mad scientist? A spy? A station worker for the Dharma Initiative? Or — more likely — a government employee privy to some top-secret project?

Revolution and The Hunger Games

Much like Katniss Everdeen, Charlie Matheson is a teenage archer girl in the wilderness faced with staying alive in extraordinary circumstances.

However, that's where the similarities end between Tracy Spiridakos' main character in NBC's new drama Revolution (premiering tonight, 10 ET/PT) and the literary and cinematic heroine of The Hunger Games.

Created by Supernatural's Eric Kripke with Lost's J.J. Abrams as an executive producer (and a premiere episode directed by Iron Man's Jon Favreau), Revolution is set in a USA 15 years after a worldwide blackout, where nature has taken over in the absence of electricity and machinery.

Daniella Alonso Interview

   NBC's Revolution premieres tonight as one of the most ambitious and most promoted new series of the year. What's all the talk about? I asked actress Daniella Alonso, who plays Nora, to shed some light on the show and her character, whom she describes as someone who "likes to blow stuff up." What's not to love about that?

   "There are those special projects that don't ever feel like work but just a blessing to be a part of and Revolution is one of those projects," Daniella said. "Nora is a tough, no nonsense, hardened individual. She does what she has to do in order to get the job done, whatever that may be. I don't think she's comfortable with the things she's done but in this new world you have to do what you have to do in order to survive. I respect that about her. Where others may have given up she's found a way to survive and thrive. She has a wall up and doesn't let people in...but she did once."

Elizabeth Mitchell Interview

   After four years on Lost and two on the equally mysterious V, Elizabeth Mitchell knows a thing or two about keeping secrets. Her latest TV gig, on NBC's Revolution, has Mitchell feeling at home once again as interviews become a series of "[Insert Network Here] would kill me if I told you that." But she's also learned, as have we, that being surprised is half the fun!

   Here's what we do know: Elizabeth plays Rachel, mother to Charlie and Danny, wife to Ben. But all of that information comes from the pre-blackout storyline. Whether or not Rachel figures into Revolution's present day timeline remains to be seen. Although, in this writer's humble opinion, an actress of Elizabeth's caliber would not be cast in a fairly standard doting mother role.

   I caught up with Elizabeth this morning to talk about her unique path to Revolution (she replaced actress Andrea Roth after the pilot was filmed), why she was drawn to the show and what you can expect from the sprawling could-be epic saga.

Here's the challenge for Eric Kripke, the producer in charge of “Revolution,” an NBC series set on a future Earth without electricity: Take a horror story and make it a fantasy.

   Make his characters — and thus the viewers at home — want to keep the lights off and the phones uncharged and the hospitals unequipped.

   Mr. Kripke succeeds, in the premiere episode on Sept. 17, by suggesting what can be done with power when it lands in dictatorial hands. An unexpected subtext for a drama seen Mondays at 10 on NBC — but then, the network needs a jolt. It’s betting on “Revolution” to deliver one.

   “We wanted not to tell a typical apocalypse story about the end of things, but to tell a story about the beginning of things,” Mr. Kripke said in a telephone interview. That’s the reason he and his producing partners set the series 15 years after the blackout, on a North American continent being reclaimed by nature and divided into warring republics.

   “Instead of decimation,” he said, “the show is about heroes on this great epic quest.” To turn the lights back on, maybe, or to keep them off.

   Mr. Kripke, best known for the CW series “Supernatural,” “pitched a show about heroes and villains and the journey that these characters are on,” said J. J. Abrams, one of his producing partners. (Jon Favreau is another.) “What fascinated me,” Mr. Abrams said in a separate interview, “is the idea that when the power goes off, the power shifts. What does that look like?”

The Monroe Republic, One of Many

UPDATE: Monroe Republic Part 1: Resources

   Now that we’ve all seen the Pilot Episode of Revolution we can go deeper in the theories and especially on the Monroe Republic and the Militia.

   A few weeks ago I wrote a post about the Monroe Republic speculating on the USB memory where Ben downloaded some files moments before the Blackout and gave it to Aaron when the Militia found him. We can say that the memory is in good hands, after all Aaron used to be a millionaire and a computer genius that worked for Google. The surprise came when we find out there are more of those devices like the one Grace uses to power up a computer in the end. Before watching the Pilot we assumed there was only one, what leaves us thinking that Ben and Grace used to work together or at least for the same company.

   Without pushing it too far, we could say that this company was responsible for the Blackout. Maybe they were working in a new technology and things went out of control. Another really interesting moment was when Rachel says to Ben in the beginning “It’s happening, isn’t it?”. She knew what was going on too!

   It also was pretty shocking hearing Miles talking about the Monroe Republic saying it wasn’t the only Republic, and that its goal was to restore the power so they could be superior. If Monroe manages to get the power back on, none of the other Republics would stand a chance against them and he could conquer the entire country with tanks and planes.

   It will be interesting to see the past of Miles and Bass, they used to be friends in the army and somehow ended up being enemies and Bass as the General of the Militia. The tattoo that Bass shows in the Episode with the M inside a circle is surely used at some point as a model to identify every member of his Militia.

4 New Aditions to the Cast of Revolution

Revolution is gorwing! The producers of the show confirmed four new additions to the cast and all of them are recurring roles.

Phillip Devona will play the role of “Dr. Vidal”. No further details on this role are currently available. His credits include: The Walking Dead, Quarantine 2, Premonition, Chill Factor, Mr. Brooks, The Work, and The Glory.

Grey’s Anatomy alum Kim Raver is up to a “juicy recurring role”. Other credits: Third Watch, Night at the Museum, The Nine, and Prisioner.

The Justified alum, David Meunier, will play “Sgt. Strausser”, who first appears in the second episode of the series. Sgt. Strausser is "a menacing psychopath who works for General Monroe [David Lyons]," creator Eric Kripke says. Besides his work as Johnny Crowder on Justified, Meunier has also had roles on Jericho, CSI: Miami and Prime Suspect.

Maureen Sebastian has landed a potentially recurring role on the new NBC drama Revolution, playing the wife of Aaron (Zak Orth) in flashbacks.

Billy Burke & Tracy Spiridakos Interview at FanExpo Canada

   Recently Revolution's Pilot was presented at FanExpo Canada 2012. Billy Burke and Tracy Spiridakos appeared on stage to introduce the show and answer the questions of the fans.
